Not again!

It was my cousin’s last day with us before she flew back to Madrid so we decided that she can come to the shop with me. We had a lift with my partner to Bath where he was working. Before getting the train, I started bleeding very heavily. It even went through my trousers and I couldn’t stop it, it was horrible!

I’ve phoned my partner and he picked us up. He took us to the hospital which is not in the centre of Bath. We both didn’t have any hope; we really thought this was the end of my pregnancy. I’ve tried to contain my tears, my partner kept on telling me ‘keep strong’ and I did.

We arrived at A&E and when the lady was asking me my details, I couldn’t help feeling really emotional. They took me to a room, asked me for a urine sample which was thick heavy red blood with clots. Then, instead of being seen there, they transferred me to the Early Pregnancy Unit within the hospital.

We waited for a Dr and I started crying. Bless my cousin, she gave me a big hug and she felt very emotional too. My partner and I entered the room; the Dr asked all relevant questions and again asked for a sample. He did some tests and they came back positive, meaning that I was still pregnant. That gave me a bit of hope but he ordered a scan too.

We waited at least 2 hours for the scan as there were lots of people there. Finally we all entered the scan room. The baby was fine. This was the first time my partner saw him/her. On the first early scan I had, it looked like a little seed but on this one, it is a proper baby! He/she was moving the legs and arms and seemed happy, heartbeat was okay too.

The sonographer looked everywhere but she couldn’t see a cause for my bleeding. She asked for an internal scan to be sure. Luckily I didn’t have to wait for that one. She checked one of my ovaries which seemed fine and the other one was really painful to check so she stopped. She said it all seems okay so far. That was great news!

The baby was 11 weeks + 6 days according to the scan and according to my dates it would have been 12 weeks that day. We were so happy that we forgot to ask for a picture! She said that before leaving I needed to see the Dr again. He said that this was a ‘threaten miscarriage’. I didn’t like that term at all. He asked me to take it easy for the next 2 days and rest. The bleeding was getting lighter by now so it was okay.

I thought that was it but when he then asked me about my blood type, I didn’t know it. He was shocked that my midwife didn’t take a blood test yet at 12 weeks! He explained that if my blood type was RH negative then I would need the Anti-D injection within 72 hours of my bleeding so it won’t hurt the baby in the future. Since then, I've found out more information about this which you read here http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/complications/whatisrhesusstatus/

He took my blood test but I had to wait at least 3 hours to get the results! Of course, I didn’t open the shop that day. I had to call the hospital at 3.30pm to ask for the results and if necessary come back for the injection.

I said goodbye to my cousin in Bristol where she took the bus to go to the airport. I’ve phoned the hospital back and luckily I am RH positive! I was able to relax after that, went to a shop and had a lovely Chai Latte to calm my nerves. I also treated myself to a pair of new bras as my boobies are getting so big, I even got myself measured!

The Dr told me that although everything seems fine, he can’t warranty that it will be in the future and that if I have new blood again or I feel dizzy, then I need to go straight to A&E. Cheers! Wish me luck, please!
